As a chiropractor, I can’t stress enough the importance of regular exercise in maintaining the suppleness, strength, resilience and overall health of your body.
Being based in the lovely market town of Stroud, nestled within the county of Gloucestershire, I am delighted to share my five favourite gyms, which perfectly combine top-notch facilities with an environment conducive to holistic well-being.
Perched atop an old mill, The Fitness Mill in Stroud is steeped in history and character. With a rustic charm that blends effortlessly with modern equipment, this gym offers a unique experience.
The variety of strength-training machines and free weights is impressive, but as a chiropractor, what really entices me are the Pilates and Yoga classes. These classes are excellent for building core strength and improving flexibility, which is vital for a healthy spine. The staff at The Fitness Mill are very friendly and well-informed, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Stratford Park Leisure Centre is a treasure trove for the fitness enthusiast. Set in the magnificent Stratford Park, the setting itself is therapeutic. This facility offers an extensive range of activities, including swimming, squash, and a fully-equipped gym.
Swimming is one of two sports that works every muscle in the body. It is fantastic for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health. Additionally, the Leisure Centre provides various group exercise classes, which are a great way to make friends and stay motivated.
If personalisation and community are what you seek, Fifth Dimension Health and Fitness Club is the place to be. This gym boasts state-of-the-art equipment and a variety of classes. The inclusion of spinning and boxercise ensures that there is something for everyone.
As a healthcare professional, I appreciate the way the trainers focus on the correct form and technique, which is crucial for preventing injuries. Moreover, the serene ambience and the warm community make it an excellent place for both physical and mental rejuvenation.
True to its name, Anytime Fitness offers 24/7 access to its members, making it a perfect choice for those with hectic schedules. The gym has cardio machines, weights, and functional training equipment. The availability of private showers and wellness programmes demonstrates their commitment to holistic health.
I particularly like their selection, albeit a limited number of machines, resistance bands and stability balls, as these tools are excellent for building strength in a controlled manner, helping in maintaining function and strength.
Finally is Fortress Gym. This is the gym I am most excited about, as it is opening in August. Fortress is a 4000 ft2 facility equipped with top-of-the-line strength training equipment, including an extensive array of barbells, bumper plates, and weightlifting platforms.
Catering for everyone and the needs of both aspiring athletes and seasoned professionals. The key reason behind my excitement for Fortress is that it will be a place I can recommend that I know will help transforms people’s lives.
Based on their slogan, “Strength through Resilience”, is something I can wholeheartedly get behind. As for myself, quality is key, and from my discussions with the owner, they have gone all out for the best and highest quality equipment in Stroud. A keynote about the owners and their knowledge about health and performance, with one being a competitive powerlifter and another being a nutritionist.
The gym has competition standard equipment, BPU partners, a recovery room, a PT studio, a wide range of specialised equipment and free parking. So be quick and grab a start-up deal with Fortress Gym as they open.
In conclusion, Stroud has a plethora of options for those seeking to improve their fitness levels. As a chiropractor, I feel any of these five gyms – The Fitness Mill, Stratford Park Leisure Centre, Fifth Dimension Health and Fitness Club, Anytime Fitness Stroud, and Fortress Gym Stroud – stand out due to their commitment to offering well-rounded facilities and fostering a sense of community.
My two personal favourites are Fitness Mill Stroud and Fortress Gym Stroud
When exercising, always remember to listen to your body and, if possible, seek professional advice to ensure you are engaging in activities that align with your health objectives.
